Nacka Runt is a just over 12 kilometer long loop trail that takes you through one of the Stockholm region’s most varied cycling landscapes. The trail moves between Nacka and Stockholm municipality and is perfect for anyone wanting to experience how city and nature meet east of the capital.

About the trail

At 12.8 kilometers, Nacka Runt is a reasonable challenge for most cyclists – long enough to feel like an adventure, but not so demanding that beginners need to be scared away. The starting point and end point are located close to each other around coordinates in Nacka, which means you’ll return roughly where you started – practical if you cycle here by public transport. The Nacka area is known for its hilly terrain and its many water areas along Baggensfjärden and Stockholm’s inlet, so expect likely some elevation changes along the way.

The route and surface

The trail stretches through an area where asphalt cycle paths, residential streets and possibly gravel sections can alternate with each other – the exact surface can vary depending on which part of the route you are on.

Nacka is an area under constant development, with new districts and infrastructure projects, which can affect conditions along parts of the stretch. It’s a good idea to check current conditions before you set off. Terrain-wise, Nacka is relatively hilly with rock outcrops and forest sections, which provides a nice nature experience but may require a bit extra effort on certain sections.

Good to know

Nacka has good connections with Stockholm city, including via bus and – in the future – underground train, which makes it easy to get to the starting point without a car. Along the route you’ll likely pass both densely built-up areas and greener stretches, so there are good opportunities to stop for a coffee break or a swim depending on the season. Bring water and make sure your bike is in good condition, especially if the terrain turns out to be hillier than expected. The trail is probably best suited to the snow-free season, that is from early spring to late autumn.
