Convenient commuter route between Stockholm and Solna

Solnastråket is part of Stockholm’s regional cycling network and connects Stockholm and Solna along a route of just over eight kilometers. It’s a natural route for you who commute or want to take your bike instead of the subway heading north.

About the route

The route runs from southern Stockholm in a northwestern direction toward Solna and is a total of 8.7 kilometers long. As part of the regional cycling network, it’s designed to function as a continuous and relatively comfortable connection between the municipalities. The route passes through urban areas and likely follows existing street spaces and green corridors, which is typical for the regional cycling network in the Stockholm region. The starting point is in central Stockholm and the endpoint is in northern Solna, near the border with Sundbyberg.

The route is one-way, which means you’ll need to turn around and cycle back the same way if you don’t combine it with public transport or another way home.

Road surface and conditions

As part of the regional cycling network, the ambition is for the route to maintain a good standard, but since the route runs through dense urban development, conditions vary along the way. Parts of the route likely run on separated cycle paths, while other sections may share space with pedestrians or roads. The exact surface varies – expect asphalt for the most part, but be prepared for the quality to differ between the municipalities’ respective sections of the route.

Good to know

The route is best suited for those who want to get efficiently from Stockholm to Solna. The elevation differences along the route are relatively limited, making it suitable for most cyclists regardless of fitness level. Traffic can be intense during rush hours, particularly in the central parts of Stockholm.

Since the route is one-way, it’s smart to check in advance how you’ll get back – public transport is well-developed along the entire route and makes for a good option for the return journey. Be sure to take a look at Stockholm city and Solna city’s respective cycling maps to see the exact route before you set off.
