STHLM City Cyclist was created to gather everything a cyclist in Stockholm actually needs in one place: weather interpreted for cycling, routes that are genuinely tested, and coverage of the cycling world in Swedish.
Behind the site is me — Petri Heinikoski, founder of the web agency Pista Studios in Västerås.
I’ve been cycling for most of my life, but over the years the bike has become so much more than a way to get from A to B. It has become my way of discovering the world.
It really doesn’t matter whether it’s a calm morning through Stockholm, a winding country road, a gravel path that disappears into the forest, or a long journey where the destination is less important than the route there. It’s the freedom I’m seeking. The feeling of being able to turn off wherever something looks interesting, stop for a cup of coffee, or simply enjoy the silence between pedal strokes.
I’m fascinated equally by the people behind cycling as by the bikes themselves. The stories, the innovations, the races, the everyday commuting, and all the small details that make cycling culture so alive. Cycling isn’t just about watts, segments, or average speed. It’s about experiences, community, and curiosity.
For me, Stockholm is a fantastic cycling city, but STHLM.CC isn’t just about Stockholm. The name is a tribute to the city where the idea was born. The content is aimed at everyone who loves life on two wheels, wherever they are.
If an article gets someone to choose their bike over a car, discover a new route, try a new adventure, or just long for the next ride, then STHLM.CC has done exactly what I hoped for.
What we do ourselves
- Commute Index — our own weather assessment for cyclists, built on data from SMHI. We combine temperature, wind (including wind direction along your commute route), precipitation, and daylight into a simple rating for your specific journey.
- Rain radar — see where the rain is right now and where it’s heading, directly on the map. Perfect for deciding whether you’ll make it home dry or should wait out the shower. Radar images from RainViewer, forecast data from SMHI.
- Road work — current road work and closures that affect you as a cyclist, gathered on a map so you can reroute before you run into the barriers. Data from the Swedish Transport Administration.
- Cycling routes and guides — route descriptions with elevation profiles, surfaces, and practical details. We build them on open map data and our own knowledge of the routes.
- Link roundup — every week we hand-pick the best from cycling media around the world and link directly to the original source.
